What Diversity, Equity and Inclusion means to Nicola Smith

(SACRAMENTO)

The Office for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (HEDI) seeks to highlight individual responses to the prompt, "What does diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to you?" The responses come from staff, students and faculty on both the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

This week's response is from Nicola Smith, who works in Health Information Management.

"To me, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion means everything. It means we all have a chair at the table,” Smith said. “We are all given the opportunity to receive healthcare that meets our individual needs. Or, as staff/faculty/students of UC Davis Health, we all have our opinions listened to and our needs met, regardless of gender, gender expression, sexuality, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, ability, economic status, religion, education, or self-expression/appearance.”

HEDI would like to highlight your perspective on what diversity, equity and inclusion means to you in its weekly newsletter. To be highlighted, complete this form, which asks for your name, department/unit, a photograph and a quote answering the question, "What does diversity, equity and inclusion mean to you?” (Please note that if you include a photo, you must acknowledge your consent to use the image with a release form. If you are selected for a highlight, you will be contacted by a member of the HEDI team.)
