Among this year's honorees was Michael Wilkes, director of global health for the UC Davis School of Medicine, who received a Chancellor’s Award for International Engagement.

Wilkes is known for expanding opportunities for students to learn about worldwide health needs through global exchanges, new majors and certificate programs, and One Health courses, among other initiatives. He also has taken a leadership role in community issues such as health care for refugees. He practices and teaches in the UC Davis Division of General Internal Medicine

“Dr. Wilkes has always understood that being a good UC Davis citizen also means being a good global citizen,” said Timothy Albertson, chair of internal medicine at UC Davis Health. “We can’t think of a better way for him to be recognized.”

The Chancellor’s Awards for International Engagement recognize faculty and staff members for outstanding global and international engagement in carrying out the university’s missions of teaching, research and public service.
