Support group for children coping with a parent’s cancer or other serious illness starts next month

The UC Davis Child Life and Creative Art Therapy Department will host “Coping Together: Supporting Children Through a Parent’s Illness,” a support group for children and adolescents who have a parent with cancer or other serious illness. The group is open to youth ages 6 to 17. It will be in person and free of charge.

The group dates and times will be based on age:

  • Ages 6-11: Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 3:45-4:45 p.m.
  • Ages 12-17: Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 3:45-4:45 p.m.

Each of the four sessions provide opportunities for sharing, self-expression and working together to create coping tools. This will be facilitated by a certified child life specialist and music therapist, trained in child development, coping and self-expression.

All sessions will be held in the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center building, Room 1100, 2279 45th Street, Sacramento.

To register, please email by Wednesday, Dec. 28.
