Reaching underserved rural areas
The UC Davis Pediatric Telemedicine Program was the first of its kind in the U.S., and today is part of one of the nation’s largest telehealth services. Our clinicians conducted nearly 700 pediatric telemedicine consultations this past year, across 18 medical specialties.
We remain an international leader in evaluating telehealth effectiveness and other policy implications. In 2017–18 we continued with more than five large federally funded grants, including evaluations of pediatric tele-emergency, tele-NICU and newborn nursery, tele-endocrinology, tele-audiology and tele-physiatry programs. All are designed to increase access to pediatric subspecialty services in rural, territorial, insular and/or tribal communities.
