This is a hybrid course in which 90% of the course will be online through self-paced modules. Sessions displayed above are when learners come in to complete the exit exam. Please register for one session only. Content is identical. See “prerequisites and preparation” for additional information. No waiting lists. Italicized course dates are full.
Course description
This course is for RNs who care for adult patients undergoing cardiac monitoring. This course is a hybrid course and has two parts. Part one consists of four self-paced online modules. The modules cover concepts/principles for measuring and interpreting common cardiac rhythms, including: sinus rhythms, atrial rhythms, junctional rhythms, ventricular rhythms, cardiac conduction blocks and pacemaker rhythms. Attendees will practice the measuring and interpretation of rhythms. Clinical assessment and nursing management will be reviewed for common dysrhythmias. Part two consists of an in-person exam with a passing score of ≥83%. The dates listed above are the various available test dates. The date that you register for the course is the date of your exit exam. Part 1 and Part 2 of this course will take a total of 24 hours to complete.
Prerequisites and preparation
Part 1: 30 days prior to the in-person exit exam pre-course modules will be assigned to your UC Learning Account and course coordinator will e-mail course information and instructions. It is recommended that modules are completed within 30 days of the in-person exam. Calipers are recommended for course activities but are not required.
- ECG Interpretation Hybrid Module 1. Covers Basic Electrophysiology, Sinus Dysrhythmias and Atrial Dysrhythmias. This module will take approximately 8 hours to complete.
- ECG Interpretation Hybrid Module 2. Covers Junctional Dysrhythmias and Cardiac Conduction Blocks. This module will take approximately 7 hours to complete.
- ECG Interpretation Hybrid Module 3. Covers Ventricular Dysrhythmias and Pacemaker Rhythms. This module will take approximately 5 hours to complete.
- ECG Interpretation Hybrid Module 4 (Practice Exam & Rhythm Review). Consists of practice questions and rhythm review to assist in exam preparation. This module will take approximately 2 hours to complete.
Part 2: In-person exit exam. Participants must complete for all four course modules above to participate in the exam. Successful completion of modules will be verified with UC Learning transcripts upon arrival for the exam. The date that you register for the course is the date of your exit exam.
- All exam materials will be provided by CPPN.
- Participants must pass the exit exam with a score of ≥83%.
- Learners are encouraged to contact course coordinators and schedule time to review content prior to exam as needed.
Participants that have not completed all pre-course modules by the in-person exam date will be considered a "no show" and will forfeit registration deposit.
C.E. contact hours
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 24.0 contact hours.
The UC Davis Health Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Attendees must successfully complete Part 1 and Part 2 of the course to receive C.E. credit. Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 5 minutes late for the in-person exam; no partial credit can be awarded.

Registration deadline
Registration will close 30 days prior to the course date and all pending registrations requests will be cancelled. Walk-ins on the day of the course will not be accepted.
UC Davis employees
$50 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of course. Cancellation must be requested 30 days prior to course date to receive deposit refund.
This course is open to UC Davis Health RNs only.
