ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship serves as a springboard for innovations developed in university, corporate and national labs programs. The institute helps faculty, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduates, as well as scientists working outside academia — to see the path from cause to effect and to recognize in themselves the ability to walk it. Offerings include Entrepreneurship Academies, Big Bang! Business Competition, and Business Development Fellowships.

InnovationAccess in the Office of Research provides services that connect research to the marketplace and is focused specifically on protecting and commercializing intellectual property as well as fostering entrepreneurship within the campus community. UC Davis’ Venture Catalyst facilitates the translation of university research and technology by driving the development of new ventures.

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation unit under the School of Medicine Office of Research provides support to those interested in exploration and commercialization of research innovations through industry partnerships and startup-support.

LEADERSHIP

Faculty Development and Diversity offers leadership programs that provide opportunities for faculty to develop and enhance their leadership skills, gain insights from accomplished leaders and engage with each other in a supportive environment. 

Faculty Leadership Academy is a workshop series offered by Academic Affairs for faculty with tenure or security of employment who have demonstrated the potential for leadership and who may aspire to join the ranks of academic leaders. Nominations are solicited from each Dean, and eligible faculty may also nominate themselves.  

MENTORSHIP

Schools of Health Mentoring Academy focuses on disseminating mentoring best practices for faculty in the health sciences. Workshops for mentees and mentors address how to foster an environment that values and supports mentoring in research, education and career progression. 

Graduate Studies Mentoring Resources lists mentor and mentee opportunities and resources for graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. 

A Mentoring Toolkit for mentors and mentees at all career stages is offered by UCD Human Resources. 

POLICY ENGAGEMENT

UC Center Sacramento offers opportunities for graduate students, postdocs and faculty to learn about and engage in policy topics through their Wednesday Speaker Series, Capitol Insights Public Policy Forum, and Research Collaboratives

The California Council on Science and Technology is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established via the California State Legislature to provide objective advice from California's scientists and research institutions on policy issues involving science. Check out their calendar of upcoming events to find out about upcoming testimonies, expert briefings, workshops, or other events. 

Become and advocate through the UC Advocacy Network (UCAN), a community of committed people who lend their voices to shape state and federal policies promoting the university’s mission of education, research and public service. 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Project Management Certificate Program is offered by Continuing and Professional Education and is a rigorous, reality-based program designed to give working professionals the practical knowledge, tools and techniques that can be applied in their jobs the very next day. 

TEACHING

The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) offers a variety of resources to support Faculty teaching including Faculty Learning Communities, consultations, workshops and fellowship programs like CREATE, ACCELERATE, and ELEVATE.

Graduate Students and Postdocs can develop teaching skills through offerings at CEE such as Graduate Teaching Communities, courses, consultations, and workshops.

Professors for the Future is a year-long competitive fellowship program offered by Graduate Studies designed to recognize and develop the leadership skills of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who have demonstrated their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and academic service
