Residency Overview
Hallmarks of Our residency training program are :
- Diverse, highly talented, creative, and dynamic groups of residents and faculty who work closely together and are deeply committed to the core values of family medicine, including equity, inclusiveness, and social justice.
- Faculty responsiveness to and collaboration with our residents in developing and continuously improving our curricula, clinical care, and Department in general, guided by a Resident Steering Committee.
- Several innovative and collaborative training tracks:
- Combined Family Medicine/Obstetrics. This four year program, run in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is now over 20 years old. It is the only one of its kind, offering longitudinal integrated training in advanced OB care including C-sections and tubal ligation).
- Combined Family Medicine/Psychiatry. This five year program, also now over 20 years old and run collaboratively with the Department of Psychiatry, results in double-board eligibility.
- The Family Medicine Physician Scientist (Research) Program. This is a newly launched 5-year program, offering concurrent MPH degree training via the UC Davis School of Public Health.
- A Rural Training Collaboration with the Ukiah Adventist Family Medicine residency program. Residents who match into the Ukiah program will spend their first year at UC Davis Medical Center, and then complete their training in Ukiah.
- Extensive engagement in the local community and region, facilitated through required curricular elements. Examples include:
- Longitudinal patient care in partner Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)
- Extensive experience in community medicine enabling residents to collaborate in community-based health advocacy and partnership building.
- Highly regarded inpatient rotations at the local Veterans Administration facility
