(SACRAMENTO)

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) has recognized and honored UC Davis Health once again as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence. The UC Davis Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) was first established in pediatrics in 2011 and then hospital wide in 2013 in response to the growing challenge of antibiotic resistance.

Having earned prior designation, this renewal is a two-year designation. When IDSA honored UC Davis ASP as a Center of Excellence in 2019, the program was one of just 23 institutions to receive the honor at that time.

The designation is awarded to hospitals who “demonstrate excellence by integrating best practices in the challenging areas related to antimicrobial stewardship,” said Cheryl Smith, IDSA Senior Program Manager. “ISDA recognizes UC Davis for its high level of commitment and standards in stewardship.”

The renewal designation became effective June 16, 2021, and will carry on until 2023, at which time UC Davis Health can reapply.
