UC Davis Health faculty honored with membership in elite organization

Diana Farmer and Edgardo Salcedo inducted into American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators

UC Davis Health faculty members Diana Farmer and Edgardo Salcedo were among a group of 84 esteemed surgical educators inducted into the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators

Farmer and Salcedo are part of the fourth cohort of ACS members inducted as associates of the academy, which recognizes surgeon educators who have devoted their careers to surgical education. They were inducted during a virtual ceremony that took place Oct. 15.

“With highest quality patient care through education being the paramount theme of the American College of Surgeons, the growth of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators continues an important emerging chapter for the ACS, the world’s largest organization for surgeons,” said L.D. Britt, past president of the ACS and co-chair of the Steering Committee of the Academy. “We welcome the class of 2021 to this unique group of surgeon educators.”

Farmer, an internationally renowned fetal and neonatal surgeon, is chair of the Department of Surgery at UC Davis Health and surgeon-in-chief at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. She is a distinguished professor and also a founder and co-director of the Department of Surgery Center for Surgical Bioengineering.

Salcedo is a professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma, Acute Care and General Surgery and serves as the interim vice chair of education for the Department of Surgery. He is the program director for the General Surgery Residency Program and the Surgical Education Fellowship. Salcedo is also the surgical director of the Center for Simulation and Education Enhancement, an ACS Accredited Education Institute.
