The Sacramento resident had been in the hospital for six days, where she was being treated for COVID-19. She’d been ill for about a week before being admitted to the Emergency Department last Saturday with worsening respiratory problems. Like other coronavirus patients, Figueroa lost her sense of smell and taste, although her taste returned as her condition improved.

“I feel much better,” said Figueroa, who was excited to see her family and be at home again.

However, to be on the safe side, Figueroa is going to isolate at home for another week to make sure the virus has cleared. The setting will be familiar. And by now, so will the masking and physical distancing from loved ones.
