The landmark All of Us Research Program reached an important milestone this week -- enrolling more than 200,000 core participants from across the country. The California consortium, which includes UC Davis Health, just surpassed 23,000 core participants.

The massive research effort, funded by the National Institutes of Health, aims to gather information from one million or more people living in the U.S. It will collect genetic, biological, environmental, health and lifestyle data. The goal is to learn more about how individual differences can influence health and disease.

“This is a huge milestone for our consortium,” said Alexander D. Borowsky, professor of pathology and laboratory medicine. He leads the UC Davis arm of the study with Katherine Kim, assistant professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis.

“I appreciate the commitment of our participants, who reflect the diversity of our state,” he said. “Eighty-one percent of All of Us participants are from underrepresented communities and more than 51% are racial/ethnic minorities. Our diversity numbers are unprecedented for a program of this size. Our success reflects the deep commitment of the All of Us team throughout the state and our core value of inclusivity.”

The UC Davis arm of the program will begin recruiting in Davis, Elk Grove and our Comprehensive Cancer Center this October.
