Epic Ophthalmology Kaleidoscope improves clinician, patient experience

The Epic Ophthalmology Kaleidoscope module went live at UC Davis Health yesterday (Aug. 9), improving workflows for ophthalmologists, optometrists, technicians, and nurses.

These personnel are responsible for a variety of office visit-based workflows – documentation surrounding imaging workflows, procedures, and standard office visits with patients who present with a wide range of eye conditions.

With the Kaleidoscope implementation, the most significant workflow change is the documentation of diagnostic imaging studies and in-office therapeutic procedures. These workflows, completed in the new Imaging and Procedures (IProc) Activity and Home workspace, streamline the ordering, performance, and results processes.

Kaleidoscope also offers enhancements to existing Epic Ambulatory functionality, including the Multi-Provider Schedule, Patient Storyboard, Chart Review, Eye Exam personalization, and subspecialty-specific content.

Benefits include:

  • Subspecialty-specific eye exam workspaces (e.g., Cornea, Glaucoma, Retina, etc.).
  • Imaging and Procedure (IProc) activity provides quick access to tests and procedures without the need to navigate through an encounter workspace.
  • Imaging and Procedure (IProc) activity provides discrete documentation for test and procedures, including macros for repetitive/standardized results.
  • One-step meds and integration with the outpatient MAR.
  • One-step procedure documentation.
  • Automated charging of technical and professional fees, as well as one-step medications.
  • Integration with Ziess Forum Ophthalmology PACS.
