Reminder: Staff invited to participate in Blackout research

UC Davis Health researchers, led by principal investigator Heather Siefkes, M.D.,  Assistant Professor, Pediatric Critical Care, want to understand staff knowledge of the “Blackout” alert and perceptions of the effect the Blackout status may have on clinical care and patient experience when it is used during a hospitalization. All currently employed UC Davis Medical Center nursing, advanced practice provider, physician and clinical social services staff with an Outlook email address are eligible to participate.

This study has two optional parts: a brief survey and/or a qualitative interview. Researchers are hoping to enroll 200 participants in the survey and 20 for the interview study.

About the survey

All survey responses will be anonymous, though the findings will be published and shared with UC Davis staff members that are involved in patient policies. Interested staff can access the survey here.

Survey participants who provide their email address (which will be separated from their answers) will be entered into a raffle to receive a $50 gift card. That said, completion of the survey is not needed to be entered into the raffle; staff can still submit their email address and be included in the raffle.

About the interviews

The interview part of this study will be done via phone, in person or Zoom. The interview will be audiotaped and then transcribed. However, the transcription will not include participant names and the audiotape will be deleted following transcription.

The interview will take 20-30 minutes; all participants will receive a $20 gift card for their time. Click here to express interest in the interview.
