More than 150 UC Davis Health physicians named "Top Docs"

An impressive number of UC Davis Health physicians — 157 in all — are listed among the region’s best doctors in the December issue of Sacramento Magazine.

The physicians practice in more than 60 specialty areas, including 21 pediatric subspecialties. The UC Davis Health presence on the list represents a significant increase from the previous year when 111 physicians were named Top Docs.

In addition to the listing of names, four UC Davis Health physicians were selected to participate in brief interviews:

Martin Leamon, an addiction psychiatrist, addresses the misconception that substance use disorders can be controlled by willpower; W. Douglas Boyd, a professor of cardiothoracic and robotic surgery, tells how high-tech 3D cameras during surgery are providing vision of the surgical field that is better than what the naked eye can see; Jennifer Li, assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology, explains how the LASIK procedure at UC Davis Health uses technology so advanced that it has nearly eliminated the risk of having a complication during flap creation; David Copenhaver, director of cancer pain management and pain-telehealth programs discusses ways to overcome pain relief without opioids.

“Congratulations to the more than 150 UC Davis Health physicians who made the list of Top Docs for the Sacramento region,” said David A. Lubarsky, vice chancellor of Human Health Sciences and CEO of UC Davis Health. “It shows once again the professionalism and culture of caring that runs across all of the disciplines throughout UC Davis Health. Our physicians’ dedication to patient care is one of the reasons they are nationally-ranked in so many specialty areas, and why UC Davis Medical Center is the area’s top-rated hospital.”

Sacramento Magazine’s annual Top Docs list is compiled by a third-party firm, based on peer-review surveys. Thousands of doctors from various health systems and medical groups are asked to nominate colleagues they deem best in their given specialties, according to Professional Research Services, which compiles the list for the magazine.

The magazine is available on news racks, by subscription and online.
