UC Davis Health announces new Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Experience Officer

New appointments round out the UC Davis Health leadership team

UC Davis Health has announced two new additions who will round out the leadership team and help the system better serve patients and prepare for the future.

Chief Strategy Officer

Ron Amodeo joined UC Davis Health earlier this month in a new leadership role, Chief Strategy Officer. In addition to formalizing and operationalizing UC Davis Health’s strategic planning processes, Amodeo’s primary focus will be to envision, identify and quantify new business opportunities for the organization.

Most recently, he was an expert advisor with Dorsey Health Strategies, a health care consulting firm affiliated with international law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP.

As a key member of the Clinical Leadership team at UC Davis Health, Amodeo will work closely with the Faculty Practice Plan, the Medical Center, the School of Medicine, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and with university leadership to guide, develop and execute strategic and business plans across the entire clinical enterprise. He will report directly to David Lubarsky, Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences and Chief Executive Officer of UC Davis Health.

“Ron is exactly the kind of person we need to build out and lead our Strategy Office,” said Lubarsky. “He is a strategy, innovation, and growth leader with more than two decades of experience in health care, consulting, and technology. I look forward to working with him as we continue to solidify our strategies and priorities.”

Previously, Amodeo was the Chief Innovation and Growth Officer at Regional Health in South Dakota, where he was responsible for strategies for business growth, service line enhancement, connected health, innovation and ventures, and partnerships/collaborations. Additionally, he oversaw marketing and sales, patient experience, community relations, clinical research and new revenue streams. He was also instrumental in helping to address gaps in care for the Native American community.

Prior to Amodeo’s work at Regional Health, he spent nearly a decade at Mayo Clinic overseeing the enterprise-wide evaluation and development of strategic new business opportunities. His key projects included building Mayo Clinic’s 2020 plan, directing joint venture activities in retail health/wellness, regenerative medicine and remote condition management via digital health.

Amodeo holds a Ph.D. in History of Science and Technology from the University of Minnesota, a master’s in Information Design from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as a bachelor’s in biology from Allegheny College.

Chief Experience Officer

Jennifer Baron has been selected as UC Davis Health’s new Chief Experience Officer (CXO). Since 2016, Baron has served as Executive Director of Experience Design for Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, the largest health system in the state.

As UC Davis Health’s CXO, Baron will be responsible for building an extraordinary culture of excellence in patient and family experience, as well as a highly engaged and energizing working environment for faculty and staff. She will focus on building a strategic framework for the UC Davis Health Experience, defining service excellence goals and objectives and developing and implementing programs that foster a patient-centric culture.

In this capacity, Baron will oversee the following areas: patient experience, employee engagement and recognition, chaplain services, volunteer services, gift shop, patient relations and grievances. She will report to interim UC Davis Medical Center CEO Brad Simmons.

Baron was a tenured IU Health team member with 26 years of experience starting as a call center agent. She has held leadership positions for the past 13 years and her prior roles include leadership of the physician liaison team and IU Health’s comprehensive telehealth offering. Baron earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from Ball State University and is a Certified Patient Experience Professional.

Baron will assume her new role on April 20.
