UC Davis was also designated as “high performing” in several other fields of care.

“I’m so pleased to see the day-to-day patient-focused work of our care teams reflected in these national rankings,” said Ann Madden Rice, chief executive officer of UC Davis Medical Center. “We always view ranking as a top hospital as additional motivation to work even harder in our pursuit of excellence in quality and patient care in every way possible.”

U.S. News also released ratings for common types of care, with UC Davis Medical Center rated as “high performing” in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. The hospital also met expected standards of care for hip replacement and aortic valve surgery.

"Our achievements in recognition and rankings stem from the fact that we focus on patient- and family-centered care at all times," said J. Douglas Kirk, UC Davis Medical Center chief medical officer. "Our care teams are dedicated to delivering top-quality care, working hard day-in and day-out, and never resting on our awards or accomplishments. We’re always striving to be an even better ‘best’ hospital."

In June, U.S. News ranked UC Davis Children’s Hospital among the nation’s top 50 for pediatric care in five specialties: neonatology, nephrology, pulmonology and, in collaboration with Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California, orthopedics and urology.
