Virtual Duck Dash scheduled for Saturday

Event raises funds for UC Davis Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department

(SACRAMENTO)

The 9th annual Duck Dash will take place virtually on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department at UC Davis Children’s Hospital.

The public is invited to “adopt” rubber ducks online at https://theduckdash.com. Adoption costs range from $8 for one duck to $250 for 75 ducks. The deadline to adopt a duck is Oct. 1.

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks, each labeled with a unique number, will be dropped into a pool. Ten winning ducks will be plucked randomly by UC Davis facility dog Huggie, while fans watch the livestream.

Those who have adopted the winning ducks will receive prizes, including a $1,000 Visa gift card, a $500 Raley’s gift card and a one-year membership at Quick Quack Car Wash.

“We feel very fortunate to be included in this event,” said Diana Sundberg, Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department manager. “Funds raised by the Duck Dash will help support children while they are in the hospital, including providing toys as well as art and music therapy supplies.”

The UC Davis Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department helps to minimize the anxiety of hospitalization, increase understanding and strengthen coping skills for hospitalized children while helping them to continue their typical growth and development.
