Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program
The Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program, a partnership between Kohl’s Cares and the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, is dedicated to improving childhood safety in the community. Each year in Sacramento hundreds of children are disabled or die from preventable injuries. In fact, more children are affected by injuries every year than all other childhood illnesses and diseases combined.
In 2016, over 2,500 children were treated at the UC Davis trauma center for preventable injuries. The Oak Park Community, a neighborhood adjacent to the UC Davis Health Campus in Sacramento, was disproportionally represented among these injuries and has been identified in our Community Health Needs Assessment as a priority area for collaborative injury prevention initiatives.
The goal of the Kohl’s Injury Prevention 2018-2019 program is to reduce preventable injuries among children in the Oak Park and surrounding area by fostering a safe and violence-free community. We are working with key stakeholders such as Greater Sacramento Urban League, Black Child Legacy Campaign – Oak Park, Oak Park Neighborhood Association, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services along with schools, churches and residents to focus on teen safe driving, youth violence prevention and childhood traffic safety.
The Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program is funded through the sale of special Kohl’s Cares books and plush toys, which are available for purchase for only $5, at any Kohl’s Department store.
The Kohl's Injury Prevention Program is made possible through Kohl’s philanthropic program, Kohl’s Cares®, which sells children’s books and toys and donates 100 percent of the net profit to charitable initiatives."
