Hendry Ton recognized by the LA Times for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts
UC Davis Health Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Hendry Ton was recognized in the LA Times Business Publication for his dedication to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives within the health system and the larger community. He joined a list of reader-nominated inspirational, diverse leaders exhibiting achievements within their respective businesses.
Ton leads the Office of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OHEDI) at UC Davis Health; the mission of OHEDI is to create a climate of inclusion and anti-racism reflected in structures, policies and practices; the demographics of UC Davis Health community; the attitudes and values of its members and leaders; and the quality of personal interactions.
This recognition is the latest in an already impressive list of Ton’s achievements including the UC Davis Chancellor’s Achievement Award for Diversity and Community, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement, and the Dean’s Inspirational Faculty Educator Award for his work with students, communities, underrepresented groups, and health equity. He’s also the recipient the National Alliance on Mental Illness’ Exemplary Psychiatrist Award for his clinical work and advocacy.
“As people who are part of a large health system and university, our voices often carry weight and privilege,” said Ton. “Yet when our voice risks drowning out that of disenfranchised or underrepresented communities, we should instead remember to use our voice to amplify theirs--Be the mic, don’t take the mic. This is the foundation of allyship.”
