Employee flu shot clinic schedule released; exemptions to UC requirement granted only for medical or religious reasons

Last month, the University of California issued a systemwide order requiring all UC faculty, staff and students receive a 2020-21 flu vaccination by Sunday, Nov. 1. The mandate aims to protect the health of the university community and the public at large – and relieve the potential burden on our health systems as COVID-19 continues to spread during influenza season (FAQs for more information).

Please note that employees working from home are NOT exempt from the systemwide flu vaccine requirement.
Please note that employees working from home are NOT exempt from the systemwide flu vaccine requirement.

Once again, UC Davis Health will offer free flu shot clinics for employees at a variety of locations on the Sacramento campus and beyond (see schedule details below). However, this year, Employee Health Services will not offer walk-in vaccinations at the Cypress Building due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The vaccine will be made available to UC Davis Health employees starting Wednesday, Sept. 23.

TES personnel, volunteers and contractors may receive their free flu shot beginning Monday, Oct. 12.

If you receive a flu shot through your health care provider or some other location, you must submit proof of your vaccine to your supervisor so it can be scanned to Employee Health Services and placed in the Flu Tracker system.

To request a medical exemption, your health care provider must fill out the Medical Exemption Request Form (the last page of the Executive Order PDF). Submit the completed form to HS-ehsflunotify@ucdavis.edu and your supervisor as soon as possible to initiate the review process.

Religious exemptions are considered on a case-by-case basis; please complete the medical exemption form and mark “other,” stating the reason for your request for exemption. If your exemption request is for religious reasons, you do not need a health care provider to sign your request. Submit the completed form to HS-ehsflunotify@ucdavis.edu and your supervisor.

Deadline to file for exemptions is end of business Wednesday, Oct. 21. Due to the potential severity of the coming flu season, no other exemptions will be granted.

Employees must provide proof of vaccine or provide approved medical exemption to their supervisor by the Nov. 1 deadline.

Please contact Mary Rose Corey (mccorey@ucdavis.edu) if you have any questions.
