Help foster youth with a holiday basket

(SACRAMENTO)

UC Davis Health’s Patient Care Services is collecting donations for holiday baskets for recently emancipated foster youths this holiday season.  As youths age out of the foster care system, they may face financial challenges, which can cause emotional and physical stress. The youths have a range of needs to support their new lives as independent adults.

In the last 16 years, UC Davis Health employees have given more than 1,900 baskets to the Sacramento County Independent Living Program.

As you look for ways to give this season, consider partnering with coworkers, friends, or family to create a holiday basket.

“I just love this program so much,” said Angie Marin, pediatrics nurse manager at the UC Davis Medical Center and Children’s Hospital and the lead for the holiday basket program. “These kids need a glimmer of hope in their lives, and these baskets let them know someone cares deeply about them and is hoping for their success in life.”

There are multiple ways to participate in the Holiday Basket program. Take a look at the needed items on the 2022 Inventory Checklist and see additional information about the program here. The baskets will be collected on December 6 and basket drop-off information will be provided to participants on November 29.
