A collegial, positive learning environment
In our selection process, we look for candidates who are intelligent and curious, and who also have outstanding people skills, empathy, and compassion. Not surprisingly, our residents are a kind, fun and dedicated group – the type of people you will want to become friends with.
Our faculty members share the same character and values. UC Davis residents are key members of a collegial team without an emphasis on rank or hierarchy. Residents feel supported, respected, and valued as they exercise their duties as physicians, patient advocates, and learners.
A commitment to anti-racism
UC Davis Internal Medicine residency program commits to continually reviewing and expanding our policies, practices, and education system to confront racism.
We recognize that racism is interpersonal, institutional, structural, and systemic.
We acknowledge that medicine and our healthcare system have a deep-rooted history of racism, and as a resident training program we have an active role and opportunity to make necessary progress. Racism is a root cause of profound healthcare inequities and devastating health disparities for Black individuals, other people of color, and many marginalized communities.
We accept our responsibility to create an open space and ongoing dialogue about these issues, deliver anti-racism education in our curriculum, and support advocacy efforts and concrete changes, in an effort to hear one another, grow, and move in a positive direction.
