Research
Many members of the Division of Hematology and Oncology are actively engaged in areas of research that cover the gamut from basic/translational clinical and population research. While grants support many areas of research, cancer therapeutics is the major research program in the Division. Other active research areas include cancer health disparity, tumor markers and proteomics, protein tyrosine kinase, molecular imaging, sickle cell anemia, cancer and thrombosis, vascular biology, stem cell biology, stem cell transplant, and hemophilia. The Division has over $12 million in active extramural research funding annually. Several Hematology and Oncology faculty hold leadership roles in some of the major Research Centers in the School of Medicine. For example, at the UC Davis Cancer Center, Dr. David Gandara is Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program and Senior Advisor to the Director of the UC Davis Cancer Center, Dr. Karen Kelly is the Associate Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Lara is the Associate Director of Translational Research, Drs. Lam and Lara are Co-directors of the Cancer Therapeutic Program, Dr. Moon Chen is the Director of Population Research and Cancer Disparities, Drs. Phil Mack and Michael DeGregorio are Co-leaders of the Molecular Pharmacology Core. Dr. Jan Nolta is the Director of the UC Davis Institute for Regenerative Cures. Dr. Ted Wun is Associate Dean for Research of the UC Davis School of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Research Center at the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center.
