Data Management and Statistics Core

The Data Management and Statistics (DMS) Core of the UC Davis MIND Institute Center for the Development of Phenotype-Based Treatments of Autism Spectrum Disorder will provide a complete informatics infrastructure to support the proposed scientific projects and to ensure the highest level of data integrity at every step between data collection and data analysis.

The specific objectives of the Data Management and Statistics Core are as follows:

  1. Ensure data integrity and data hygiene
  • Develop and maintain customized data capture systems
  • Provide support for data processing (data reduction, transformation, scoring, reformatting)
  • Implement ongoing data integrity and validation analyses (e.g., data cleaning, outlier analysis)
  • Provide regular reports for tracking data quality control
  1. Provide efficient and secure access to dataset creation
  • Centralize data consolidation and storage on a large secure server, including all prior collected phenotypic data as well as newly collected data
  • Store cleaned and validated data in a normalized, relational MySQL database
  • Enact security protocols for all data in compliance with regulations and policies
  • Develop web-based apps for accessing data, exploring and visualizing data, and creating datasets to be downloaded and utilized in analysis by authorized users
  • Provide tools for mapping and formatting all center data to National Database for Autism Research (NDAR) protocols to facilitate the transfer of data to NDAR
  1. Provide state-of-the-art statistical support for analytic goals of center projects
  • Utilize and collaborate with statisticians who make up the MIND Institute Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) Biostatistics Core
  • Act as a liaison between statisticians, the database, and lead scientists and investigators
