IDD in an Era of Technology in Neurobiological and Behavioral Research

Recent advances in technology have helped intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) research to rapidly innovate and begin to answer pressing transdisciplinary questions that have the potential to increase quality of life for people with IDDs and their families. State-of-the-art technology has now been successfully utilized in neurobiological and neurobehavioral IDD investigations. Technological innovations – including comprehensive-omics approaches, neuroimaging, telehealth, bioinformatics, and precision medicine – allow the IDD research community to further mechanistic and etiologic understanding of IDDs and, ultimately, improve interventions and treatments.

The theme for the 2020 Gatlinburg Conference represents the cutting edge of IDD research, with invited speakers whose programs of research harness technology to address basic, translational, and clinical research questions. Their work is at the forefront of IDD neurobiological and behavioral research, and their presentations to the Gatlinburg Conference community will serve as a rich platform for scientific discussions for attendees.
