UC Davis MIND Institute Faculty Membership Criteria
The MIND Institute Faculty comprises individuals at UC Davis who through their research, teaching, and/or clinical service can advance the mission and programs of the MIND Institute. The faculty is drawn from both Sacramento and Davis campuses and includes both research scientists and clinicians.
MIND Institute Faculty membership is based on meeting one or more of the following criteria:
- Recruitment to the MIND Institute. If not recruited to the MIND Institute,
- A consistent history of peer-reviewed extramural funding in neurodevelopmental disabilities research, preferably as principal investigator, but at least as named co-investigator.
- A consistent history of peer-reviewed neurodevelopmental disabilities research publications.
- A consistent history of the design and implementation of neurodevelopmental disabilities clinical protocols and the accrual of a reasonable number of patients to these protocols;
- Acknowledged expertise in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities within the MIND Institute community, as exemplified by any of the following:
- excellence in the clinical evaluation and management of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families
- a substantial role in the education of trainees who are future researchers and/or clinicians in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities.
Applicants to the MIND Institute faculty should submit a letter of interest to the Chair of the Membership Committee, Dr. Len Abbeduto, indicating how they fulfill the requirements for membership. The application should include a complete curriculum vitae. The applicant should solicit two letters of recommendation from current faculty of the MIND Institute that indicate how the applicant meets the criteria for faculty membership.
New faculty applications will be reviewed in a timely fashion by the membership committee and a recommendation will be made to the Executive Committee for final review. The applicant will be informed of the decision of the Executive Committee by the Chair of the Membership Committee. Faculty will be appointed for three years. Faculty will be reviewed every three years and their continuing status as faculty will be evaluated by the Membership Committee based on the criteria indicated above. A recommendation will be made to the Executive Committee for final review. The faculty member will receive notification from the Chair of the Membership Committee on the status of their faculty appointment.
The term faculty is here more broadly defined than under traditional UC practice and may include, for example, individuals in the Professional Research Series as well as Staff Psychologists who meet membership criteria.
