In Ragan’s 2020 Video, Visual and Virtual Awards, a pair of UC Davis Health Public Affairs & Marketing employees were recognized for their creativity, storytelling skills and resourcefulness.

Videographer Chris Nelson and Senior Public Information Officer Charlie Casey garnered the top prize in the “Shoestring Video” category for producing a compelling mini-documentary about UC Davis Health’s art collection – with a budget of under $300 and no additional outside resources.

In telling the story about how the art soothes and brings comfort to patients, the five-minute video, “Art of Healing: The Art Collection of UC Davis Health”, also caught the attention of audiences well beyond the health system.

The contest judges noted: “The video was well received in the region’s art community and was even featured as an Official Selection of the Ag & Art Film Festival in September 2020. It also inspired a regional art influencer to express their appreciation for the hospital ‘curating one of the largest collections of original art in our region.’”

Since the video premiered in December 2019, it has earned more than 13,000 impressions across social media channels and nearly 3,000 views.
