On Thursday, Jan. 28, UC Davis Health was named as one of about 450 employers across the country to earn the Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) designation for 2021.
By providing exceptional commuter benefits, UC Davis Health has met a National Standard of Excellence established by Best Workplaces for Commuters, a program managed by the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida.
“Being designated a Best Workplace for Commuters is a notable accomplishment,” said Julie Bond, program manager for Best Workplaces for Commuters. “To qualify, an employer must demonstrate its commitment to its employees by providing progressive commuter programs, like telework, discounted transit passes, bicycle-friendly amenities and rideshare solutions.”
In addition to the environmental benefits and cost savings, Bond noted, empowering employees to commute smarter also helps employers recruit and retain talent.
“We’re thrilled to be awarded the designation of Best Workplaces for Commuters for a second year in a row – it showcases another reason UC Davis Health is one of the best places to work in the region,” said Sarah Janus, sustainability officer for Parking and Transportation Services. “And as we continue to make progress in ending the pandemic and employees begin returning to the office, it’s a good time to rethink your commute by exploring alternative transportation options.”
Janus urged UC Davis Health community members to consider signing up for the Green Commuter Program, which offers a variety of benefits that encourage less environmentally impactful commutes by carpool/vanpool, public transit, bicycle or other means.
