Walmart, Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club’s donate $459,087 to support local pediatric patients

With 62 children entering a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital (CMN) every minute, the need for adequate health care is critical, especially with the impact of COVID-19. This year, despite health and safety protocols and new demands on essential workers, local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores raised $459,087 for UC Davis Children’s Hospital during the annual fundraising campaign.

Walmart and Sam’s Club employees in Northern California raised funds for UC Davis Children’s Hospital during the month-long CMN campaign in July.

As the only CMN Hospital in inland Northern California, funds raised by participating stores are critical to UC Davis Children’s Hospital being able to provide the highest quality of care. All funds raised during the month-long effort in July stay local to help children in UC Davis Health’s 33-county service area.

Hospital leadership, including UC Davis Medical Center chief administrator and UC Davis Health chief operating officer Brad Simmons and nurse managers on the front lines of pediatric care, made store visits to meet with associates and share the impact of dollars raised.

“We wanted to let the stores know how valuable their contributions really are,” Charlie Albertalli, associate director of CMN at UC Davis, said. “Saving kids’ lives is a team effort. We could not do what we do without the incredible team members in the Walmart/Sam’s Club organization who worked hard every day of the campaign to help kids live better.”

A total of 40 Walmart, Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club locations from Anderson to Tracy raised funds through online and in-store donations. Eleven stores raised more than $10,000, with the top fundraising store – at 3010 W. Grant Line Road in Tracy – raising $19,828.

As a longtime CMN partner, Walmart/Sam's Club has been integral in supporting CMN Hospitals like UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Since 1987, Walmart and Sam’s Club have partnered with CMN Hospitals to raise more than $1 billion for local children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. Donations will fund a full range of children’s services including research, education and clinical care.
