We are a 4-year ACGME-accredited postgraduate residency training program based at the University of California, Davis Medical Center located in Sacramento, Calif.

Our focus is helping the underserved communities of Northern California. We have a clinical presence to the Oregon and Nevada borders, south to the city of Modesto including Mammoth Lakes, and west to the city of Fairfield. This represents a 65,000-square-mile area that includes 33 counties and 6 million residents across Northern and Central California. We care for one of the largest geographical areas in the state of California, including a majority of counties that are considered rural or frontier.

We provide our residents with an excellent education and training, with the opportunity to pursue post-training opportunities in fellowships, academic centers, the Kaiser system and private practice. Our learning environment fosters residents to develop their medical and clinical skills.

Program Details

Our program takes seven residents per year, for a total of 28 categorical residents. Our affiliate sites include Kaiser Permanente in the cities of Sacramento and Roseville. We include a PGY3 rural rotation in Susanville, Calif. located in the Eastern Sierras.

We also have an additional four residents through the Family Medicine/Obstetrics residency program (one per year) who complete their residency training alongside our categorical residents, replacing their need for an OB fellowship at the end of their residency training.

Advocacy

Our program feels strongly that OB-GYN practitioners need to become leaders and advocates in women’s health. In 2005, we initiated the UC Davis Resident Legislative Lobby Day which continues to this day on a yearly basis. This Legislative Lobby Day is now an ACOG District IX led advocacy day that now includes OB-GYN residents from throughout the state of California. After residency, our graduates continue to be involved in advocacy and service on many District, regional, National and international women’s health organizations.

Surgical Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to provide our residents with a comprehensive and hands-on surgical education that equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Through a structured and immersive learning experience, we aim to prepare our residents to become confident and proficient surgeons who can provide exceptional care to women at all stages of life.

Resident Research

Our resident research program is robust, with each resident graduating with a published paper or a quality improvement project that has led to a change in clinical practice. Residents are strongly encouraged and supported to present their research projects as invited speakers at regional, national, and international meetings.
