Parking Structure 3 modernization upgrades continue; East entry to be closed Feb. 18

The East entry/exit gates for Parking Structure 3 (PS3) will close for construction beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18 as modernization upgrades continue. The West gates (near Stockton Blvd.) will be open during this time, accessible via the access road off Stockton Boulevard.

Construction is anticipated to take four to five weeks.

Please note:

  • The PS3 East entry/exit gates will be closed to all traffic starting Feb. 18.
  • Entry to the PS3 West gate will be from Stockton Boulevard only, via the access road.
  • Exiting from the PS3 West gate, all vehicles must turn right along the access road to access X Street and Stockton Boulevard.

Employees are encouraged to allow extra time in getting to work, as heavy traffic is expected during peak times.

Parking and Transportation Services and the UC Davis Police Department are taking steps to minimize delays during this time, as improvements continue to be made to parking facilities and your parking and customer experience.

Parking Structure 1 (PS1) South Gate reopened; North Gate to close Jan. 20

To complete parking upgrades to Parking Structure 1 (PS1), the North Gate will be closed for approximately four weeks, beginning Jan. 20.

The South Gate of PS1, with direct access to/from Stockton Blvd., has reopened. 

As part of an ongoing improvement project at Parking Structure 1 (PS1), the South Gate on Stockton Blvd. has reopened but the North Gate will be closing on Monday, Jan. 20.

During that time period, however, one exit lane at the North Gate will be open during peak periods only (Monday–Friday, 6:00 to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.). The North Gate is completely closed at all other times.

The South Gate, which allows for direct access to the parking structure from Stockton Blvd., is now accessible 24/7.

It’s easier and more convenient than ever to enjoy a car-free commute – without the aggravation of worsening traffic, annoying drivers and parking hassles.

Thanks to SacRT’s ZipPass mobile app, UC Davis Health community members are now able to purchase single-ride tickets and monthly passes for both the Intercampus Shuttle (between Davis and Sacramento campuses) and the Elk Grove Shuttle – right on your smartphone.

Parking Payroll Deduction Changes

In conjunction with the transition to UC Path, Parking Services will be realigning the Monthly and Biweekly payroll deduction schedules. This change will simplify the payment schedules, making the deduction process more transparent, and will allow Parking Services to perform reconciliations, refunds, and other processes more efficiently.

Starting September 2019, all permits (B, D, Carpool, Motorcycle, etc.) will be valid in 1-month increments.  All payroll-deducted permits will be issued and charged at the beginning of each month:

  • Employees paid on a monthly schedule will pay in advance for the full month, once at the beginning of each month. Monthly deductions apply to permits valid for the same month.
  • Bi-weekly paid employees will pay in advance for the full month in two installments: half from the first paycheck, and half from the second. Bi-weekly deductions apply to permits valid for the same month.

Aligning the schedules, require the following adjustments will be made:

  • Monthly employees currently pay in arrears. To align schedules, monthly employees will see an additional one-month deduction (double charge) on their August 30th paycheck.
  • Bi-weekly employees currently pay in advance, however due to differences in deduction holidays between Peoplesoft and UC Path, a half-month break from deductions is required. No regular deductions will be taken from the August 21st paycheck.

Temporary Parking Permits Now Available by Calendar Month

May 14, 2019

Parking and Transportation’s Temporary Parking Permit model has changed. All Temporary Parking Permits offered by UCDH PATS office are now issued on a calendar month basis (i.e. April, May, June, etc.).

Temporary permits may be purchased at any time, but the expiration date will fall on the last day of a given month. Monthly permit prices are fixed and prorations are not available.  If you currently have a valid temporary parking permit that expires mid-month, Parking and Transportation Services may extend this permit without additional cost. Contact our office for details.

If you are purchasing a temporary permit toward the end of the month, it may be more cost effective to purchase daily permits until the end of the month.  Daily permits are $6 per day, and allow for parking in Lot’s 14, 16, 18, 25, 28 and 30 and can be purchased at the payment kiosks located in lots 14, 16, 18 and 25.  Daily Parking Permits can also be purchased through the “Whoosh!”  App (a $0.35 convenience fee applies), which is available in iPhone’s App Store or Google Play.  The “Whoosh” app allows you to pay for parking on-the-go!

Parking and shuttle services changes for March 20, 2019.

  • The Gold, Blue, and Green lines will be modified and will resume regular service on Thursday, March 21, at their usual time.
  • The Midtown Shuttle will be suspended.
  • There will be no shuttle service to Cypress, Ticon III, or the Broadway Building

In place of the normal shuttle routes and times, the health system’s on-campus shuttles are being re-labeled “Hospital” and “Ambulatory Care Clinic” on a temporary basis. All shuttles will stop at the Cancer Center on request. 

  • Service to the Hospital Loading dock will be provided from Lots 14, 16 and the Contractors lot from 5:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.
  • Service to the ACC will be provided from Lots 14, 16 and the Contractors lot from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • A shuttle to/from the 39th street light rail station will run from 6-9 a.m., and 3-6 p.m. with drop off/pick up points at the Main Hospital and Ambulatory Care Clinic.
  • The Davis Shuttle will run its normal hours, but pick-up and drop-off will be in Lot 16 instead of the usual X Street transit stop.

Elk Grove Shuttle

Employees who live in the south area have the option of parking in a designated area at the RT Light rail stop at Consumnes River Blvd. and Franklin Blvd in Elk Grove, and being shuttled in to the campus by bus. Buses will complete 5 a.m. trips to UC Davis Health and 5 p.m. trips back to Elk Grove according to the schedule below, during the days of the strike. Buses will drop/pick up employees in Lot 16, where internal campus shuttle buses will provide transport to the hospital, Cancer Center and Ellison Building.

AM pick-up times (Elk Grove): 5:45, 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, 7:45
PM pickup times (UCDH Lot 16): 3:45, 4:15, 4:45, 5:15, 5:45, 6:15, 6:45, 7:15, 7:45      
 

Parking Structure 1 - Free parking after 5 p.m. and protected entry

Individuals who are working the evening shift, or overnight, can park in Parking Structure 1 for free, after 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Staff can enter from the gates at the rear of the garage, which will be open. Staff who take advantage of this option must leave the garage before 9 a.m. on Thursday morning.

A walled entryway will be created between Parking Structure 1 and the hospital building. This is to provide a barrier for people who would like to park closer to the hospital building and walk in without seeing any labor action. This protected entryway is one of several around the hospital building that have been set up for employees who are concerned about how to get from their car into the hospital itself.

Contractors’ Lot - Parking on campus, but away from the hospital building

For those who would rather not park in their usual location because of labor action concerns, the “contractors’ lot” south of 2nd Avenue and adjacent to Lot 16 will be open, secure and offering a low-key way to get into work. Internal campus shuttles will run every few minutes, taking employees to alternate entrances at the hospital and other key buildings. 

General Parking Options
Employees are encouraged to park in their normal parking lots. Employee Parking in Patient and Visitor Parking areas will be enforced to ensure adequate Parking for our Patients and their Visitors. Parking permits are required in all parking areas on campus.

Online Services and Parking Changes with Permit Renewal

By now everyone should have renewed their parking permit. If you did not renew, please proceed to our website to purchase a new permit here (Google Chrome works best). Those without a valid permit who park on campus are subject to citation.

What’s New with Parking?

Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) at the Medical Center is moving to License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology and we are no longer issuing physical permits. When you purchase your permit, you will need to provide your license plate number, the state of issuance, along with the make and model of your vehicle. Your license plate now serves as your permit. You can attach up to 3 vehicles to your permit. If more than one vehicle is on campus at the same time, the second vehicle identified may be cited.

ADA Placard Registration

All staff who park in ADA stalls are required to register their placard with PATS and have it assigned to their permit. If you are the owner of a valid ADA placard, please contact the Parking and Transportation office at 916-734-2687 to learn how. We are beginning this practice to reduce abuse, and do our best to ensure that all of our patients and staff members who really need the ADA stalls have access to them.

Our online system is live and UC Davis Health staff, faculty and students can now manage their parking online. The following is a list of services that are available:

Virtual Permits on the Davis Campus - How they work

With Parking and Transportation’s transition to virtual permits, we are getting many questions around how UC Davis Health virtual permit holders will park at the Davis Campus. Here’s how it will work.

UCDH permit holders who park at the Davis campus on an infrequent basis are able to print a temporary “notice of virtual permit” from their account on the Parking and Transportation website. This notice can be displayed on the dashboard when parking at the Davis Campus and is valid for up to 30 days from the date printed. You must use a vehicle listed on the permit when parking at the Davis campus. The notice of virtual permit can be reprinted at any time. (https://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/parking/)

For UCDH permit holders who park at the main campus frequently, a long term notice of virtual permit, which is valid through June 30, 2019, is also available. To obtain the long term notice of virtual permit, please email HS-Parking@ucdavis.edu with your name and license plate or employee ID number. Once the notice of virtual permit is ready for pick up, you will be emailed with instructions on where to pick it up.

Carpool and Green Commuter Spaces Added

Carpools with three or more employees have previously been given reserved parking spaces, but our two person carpools have not.  That’s changing! As part of our effort to increase our carpools and reduce the number of drive alone vehicles, Parking & Transportation Services has created new reserved carpool parking. These spaces are open to everyone who carpools! Whether it’s a carpool with two, three or even four employees. We have also added some Green Commuter spaces that will require a displayed Green Commuter Permit for those days our Green Commuters just have to drive. Carpool and Green Commuter spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Twenty-two new carpool spaces have been installed in Lots 21, 18 and 12. They include carpool spaces for all size carpools and Green Commuter spaces for those days you have to drive alone and use the Green Commuter permit. Each space is marked, make sure to read the signs!  These new spaces are in addition to the 20 carpool and vanpool spaces currently at the Broadway Building.

As the new carpool spaces become successful, we will be expanding the program to additional lots. Currently we have outlined additional carpool spaces for Lot 14 and Lot 4.

We hear there has been some concern that this program is reducing parking spaces, but it shouldn’t worry anyone. Carpoolers have been parking in B spaces all along and these carpool spaces were added to B Lots.  Carpools are given these reserved priority locations as a benefit for choosing to share the commute rather than driving alone. We thank them for this effort!
