Since 1986, The University of California, Davis has sponsored and administered an accredited CPE Center through UC Davis Health in Sacramento.  This academic institution is invested in training professionals to provide spiritual care that meets all the needs of those seeking and those providing healthcare.  Our CPE program is one of the institution’s modes of addressing the diverse spiritual care needs of those we serve. All CPE students receive clinical assignments and on-site on-call duties.

Our CPE Center is accredited to offer Level I, Level II, and Certified Educator CPE. The following diagram delineates our CPE program objective.

This non-stipend Summer Internship is a fulltime intensive introductory and initial CPE unit. The focus is professional and personal interfaith training primarily for seminarians and others able to commit to this training.

Requirement:

  • No prior CPE required
  • Completed ACPE application
  • Onsite interview with CPE selection committee (preferred).
  • Completion of a minimum of one-year seminary education

Dates:

  • Summer: June through August

Tuition: $500

Stipend: None

This program is for care-provider professionals engaged in active practice of ministry or interested in continuing education and vocational enhancement.  The program is offered periodically.  Decision to offer will be posted by June 15 each year.  Please check the site regularly for updates.

Tuition: $500 initial unit and $300 each consecutive unit

Education Times: 8:00 – 1:00 if we go through lunch or 8:00 – 2:00 with one hour lunch.

Pastoral Visit Time: Each person will schedule 16 hours weekly for patients’ care and eight on-calls for the unit.

On-call Times: Weekdays: 4:30 pm to 8:15 am next day
                          Weekends: 8:00 am – 8:15 am next day

We offer Single Unit Internship during the fall, winter, and spring units as part of the yearlong residency Any person needing one unit of CPE and able to commit to this non-stipend training may apply. We select one or two applicants to join the yearlong residents as peers. It is a fulltime single unit residency without stipend.

This Level I and II year-long (4 unit) stipend CPE training allows one to develop professional and pastoral competency in ministry with the opportunity to move from Level I to Level II CPE.  It is for anyone wanting to become a chaplain (military, hospital, prison, street, local congregation etc.) and a board-certified chaplain.  It is also for Cergy, Iman, Priests, other religious and spiritual leaders.  

Requirements:

  • One unit of CPE preferred but not required
  • Completed ACPE Application
  • Master of Divinity, or graduate degree in religion, pastoral care or equivalent
  • Onsite interview with CPE selection committee (Preferred)

Stipend: $30,000 paid in 12 monthly installments without withholdings

Dates: September to August

Tuition: $500 initial unit and $200 each consecutive unit

The certified educator CPE (formerly Supervisory CPE) is for those who have completed Levels I and II CPE and feel directed to become ACPE certified educators.   This new certification process is a collaboration between this CPE center and ACPE Certification Commission.  The interested person must successfully complete the two-part application process and be accepted by both UC Davis Health CPE center and ACPE to participate in our program.  

Interview Fee: $50.00

Deadline: Applications are accepted and reviewed in conjunction with ACPE until the selection is made.
