Preliminary Autopsy Diagnosis (PAD):

  • PAD will be issued within 48 hours of completion of the autopsy. The PAD may be delayed if the autopsy is highly infectious or complicated.
  • The PAD will be discussed with the Attending and/or requesting physician within 48 hours of the completion of the autopsy.

Final Autopsy Diagnosis (FAD):

  • FAD will be issued within 14 days and final report within 60 days. The FAD may be delayed if the autopsy is highly infectious or complicated.
  • The FAD will include a short clinical summary, expanded PAD and autopsy summary with clinical-pathologic correlation and cause of death.
  • The FAD will be distributed to the requesting clinicians, attending pathologist, pathology residents. Family members interested in obtaining autopsy results should contact the clinician who requested the autopsy and/or cared for the decedent during his/her terminal illness.
