I chose Davis because I'm incredibly impressed by the work being done at the MIND Institute, and I met some of the nicest and most inspiring residents and faculty at this program.
Clinical areas of interest: Child Psychiatry, Developmental Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine
Hobbies: Dance, running, exploring local restaurants, stumbling through YouTube videos, making lifestyle changes for a month, taking dares too seriously.

Why did you choose UC Davis Pediatric Residency Program?
I felt that the physicians were very invested in the education and wellbeing of the residents. The residents were very kind and easy going, and seemed to really care for their patients and work well together. In addition, I saw the many unique opportunities, such as working with refugee populations, participating in a well-established global health program, and many opportunities for participating in pediatric advocacy. I knew UC Davis would prepare me for my future, giving me a great education in pediatrics, while making it a fun and enjoyable experience.

The residents and faculty were all very welcoming and everyone here seemed happy. I was impressed with the community oriented approach, diverse patient population and opportunities for child advocacy.

I was very impressed with the autonomy and clinical exposure that residents have at UC Davis. It was also wonderful to see such a nice community of residents and attendings. I love the opportunities for patient advocacy, especially being in the state capital, and for engaging with the greater Sacramento community.

My husband spent some of his childhood in the Davis/Sacramento area and shared his love for California with me when we first started dating. The area is beautiful and offers so much for our family and his career! When I visited the program I immediately felt at home. The residents seemed happy, laid-back, smart and the program also met all the criteria I was hoping to find in a program.

I loved that the residents were friendly and approachable during both the interview day and interview dinner. It was apparent to me that the residents enjoyed one another’s company and supported each other, which I value very highly. I also loved the community advocacy month where residents learn about resources available for patients and can get involved in community advocacy. In addition, the city of Sacramento is a beautiful city that has a lot of things to do and is close my husband’s school.

I chose UC Davis because it was the perfect balance of everything I was looking for! Small/medium program size, an academic name with a big community focus, and incredibly diverse patient population. On top of that the residents and faculty were warm and welcoming and made me feel right at home right away!

It was a pretty easy decision after the interview day! I loved the people, hospital, and it just felt right from the beginning. I knew I would get excellent training while being supported in a very collaborative, close-knit program.

Going into residency applications, I knew I wanted to go back to California. During interview season, I was excited to visit Sacramento, and got a great feeling from both the city and the program. I felt that I connected most with the residents at UC Davis compared to the other programs I visited, and I liked the size and opportunities afforded by the program.

I wanted a program that would give me training on how to work with diverse medically underserved communities, as well as how to advocate for my patients on a community and legislative level. Additionally, I was attracted to the cutting-edge facilities, large catchment area, and longitudinal and responsibly-run global health program. Lastly, how could I resist choosing to move back west and be in a diverse city that is still so close to all the outdoor things that I love?!

Perfect size of the program to allow for everyone to really get to know each other. I appreciated the genuine interactions I observed between residents and the staff, and that the residents had time spend time with each other outside the hospital environment. Tough to beat having the opportunity to take day trips to Lake Tahoe on your days off.
