In addition to the invaluable education gained on clinical and research rotations, fellows will participate in structured educational activities.
Fellows’ Educational Conference
Mandatory weekly didactics to cover ACGME curricular content. Education formats to include lectures, seminars, case-based discussions, simulations, procedural training, and small group discussions.
Fellows’ College
This interdisciplinary conference will include all pediatric subspecialty fellows. Faculty and staff from varying disciplines will cover non-clinical skills such as teaching skills, professionalism, ethics, cultural diversity, systems-based practice, quality improvement, career development, etc. It will also provide a forum for collegiality between fellows of different disciplines.

Introduction to Clinical Research Course:
An intensive 2-week UC Davis course held annually in September covering clinical research methods; designed to meet the core curriculum in scholarly activities set forth by the ABP and ACGME. To be completed in the second year of fellowship, but fellows may be given permission to enroll in the first year if able to identify and initiate a research project early in fellowship.
ECLS Training:
After completing the ECLS Provider Course during their first year, fellows will complete semiannual ECLS training including water-drills/simulations, lectures/review of guidelines and literature, and testing to maintain ECLS provider standing.
Ultrasound Training
In addition to formal ultrasound teaching incorporated into the Fellows’ Educational Conference, as well as hands-on training during clinical rotations, fellows have the opportunity to participate in monthly interdisciplinary ultrasound training provided by Ultrasound-trained experts in the NICU and PICU.
Resident Educational Conferences
Fellows will participate in pertinent pediatric resident conferences when invited or interested, including Resident Morning Report, Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality, and Case Management Rounds that pertain to critical care patients or topics.
Fundamentals of Healthcare Quality Improvement Workshop
Fellows will participate in this two-day workshop once during their fellowship, which teaches healthcare professionals the fundamentals of design and implementation of quality improvement projects and initiatives.
