Clinical Programs

In the division of General Pediatrics, we provide expert medical care for infants and children in the Newborn Nursery, the Pediatric Urgent Care Center, as well as in our Primary Care and faculty practices. Our pediatricians are also available for consultation at the nearby Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California.

Our primary care clinics are staffed by pediatric faculty and residents at the UC Davis Medical Center as well as at Wellspace Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in nearby Oak Park, the County of Sacramento's Primary Care Center in Oak Park and the Sacramento Native American Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Midtown Sacramento.

Specialty Clinics

  • Diagnostic Clinic, which provides second opinions for pediatric patients with difficult diagnostic dilemmas and growth problems
  • Lactation clinics, which are held several times a week to help mothers with lactation and breastfeeding issues
  • Youth and Young Adult Clinic, which provides confidential reproductive healthcare services to patients 13 and older
  • Adolescent Clinic, which provides clinical services to adolescents with chronic diseases.

Our department also consults on child abuse cases for Sacramento County, which are either referred through the Emergency Department or on the Pediatrics Unit. Our faculty also serve as consultants for rural counties in Northern California for general pediatric concerns. We also have a program in the Otolaryngology Department, which helps to screen and treat minor issues related to common ear, nose and throat conditions.

Research interests by the faculty are diverse and include pediatric obesity and weight management, breastfeeding issues, the role of the pediatrician in identifying and intervening with children at risk for poor school performance, injury prevention, culturally competent care and general pediatrics in a managed care environment. Other faculty interests include palliative care for the pediatric patient.

Faculty within the Division take an active role in both medical student and pediatric resident education. Dr. Su-Ting Li serves as the Director for the Department of Pediatrics Residency Program  while Drs. Alexis Toney, Eric Crossen and Jennifer Plant are the Instructors of Record for the third and fourth year medical students at the UC Davis School of Medicine.

General pediatric faculty and volunteer clinical faculty from the community provide supervision in the pediatric continuity clinics at the UC Davis Medical Center and also at Wellspace, our continuity clinic locations in nearby Oak Park that is focused on providing medical care for underserved populations. Although residents present all patients to an attending physician, the clinic strives to cultivate resident responsibility for providing a medical home for clinic patients.
