Philip Clifford, associate dean for research at the University of Illinois' College of Applied Health Sciences, will present "Intentional mentoring: A mentoring Academy Forum" on Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Betty Irene Moore Hall, Room 1000.
Lunches provided for those who pre-register by Oct. 20. See links below.
Sponsored by Faculty Development and Diversity and the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center, the event is open to everyone, from those who are beginning their careers in academic medicine and research to those who are guiding and supporting junior faculty, fellows and postdoctoral and graduate students.
“We are fortunate to have Dr. Clifford here to talk about the use of independent development plans (IDPs), which have gained traction at leading academic medical centers as a useful process for students, junior faculty members, fellows and their mentors to establish, review and update expectations, goals and achievements,” said Julie Schweitzer, director of the Mentoring Academy at UC Davis Health.
It’s a process that addresses an array of important topics and considerations for both mentors and mentees, including how to get along with mentors and clearly state expectations, to give feedback and promote professional development as well as to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds.
UC Davis is among the first in the nation to offer an online faculty mentoring system to review goals and is enthusiastic about offering this opportunity for professional growth to our faculty and trainees,” Schweitzer said.
