East Wing fire and life safety upgrades to begin in early July 2017

Improvements to the fire and life safety infrastructure for the East Wing of the hospital is set to begin July 10, 2017 and extend through November 2019. Work to improve the infrastructure will be done in phases throughout select areas of the East Wing, including corridors, stairways, rooftop mechanical spaces and patient floors.

Contract work crews will begin work in the vestibules just outside of Stairwell # 1  up and down all floors of the East Wing.

According to Facilities, Design and Contruction Project Manager Jim Davis, there will be intermittent noise and closures to access floors via Stairwell # 1 through the duration of this work. On-site signage will be posted for pedestrian wayfinding.

In addition, improvements to patient floors is expected to begin August 21, 2017, starting with the fourth floor of the East Wing. The work on the fourth floor is expected to be completed at the end of February 2018.

The planned East Wing Fire and Life-Safety Upgrades Project is part of the larger Hospital Seismic 2020 Initiative. The project is needed to allow for the hospital's East Wing operations to continue after it is disconnected from the seismically-deficient North/South Wing of the remaining hospital complex.
