UC Davis Department of Neurology faculty members were key contributors at the annual educational conference of the Parkinson Association of Northern California at McClellan Conference Center on Sept. 22.
The day-long event featured expert speakers from all four Sacramento area health systems. UC Davis Health presenters included Noriko Malhado-Chang, a neurologist in the Department of Neurology and Kia Shahlaie, a neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery. More than 800 people attended the conference – the largest ever such event organized on the West Coast.
Malhado Chang spoke about young-onset Parkinson’s and Shahlai ediscussed new surgical interventions available for Parkinson’s patients. Other speakers addressed nutritional and other needs facing those with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Speakers also answered questions from the audience.
UC Davis Department of Neurology was a platinum sponsor of the annual conference and had a table with information about UC Davis neurology services, staffed by Karla Lindstrom and Laura Sperry.
The Parkinson Association of Northern California is an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with Parkinson's, their families and care partners throughout the region. It also offers Parkinson’s disease support groups.
