Aguilar-Gaxiola honored as 2018 California Champion of Mental Health


Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, professor of internal medicine and founding director of the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities, was honored as a 2018 California Champion of Mental Health on November 15, 2018, at an awards dinner in Sacramento. He was recognized with this year's Research & Health Disparities Award from the organization Mental Health California.

Aguilar-Gaxiola is a renowned expert on health disparities and behavioral health in ethnically diverse populations. He has focused much of his career on developing innovative solutions to improve access to culturally and linguistically proficient mental health services in underserved communities.

Mental Health California, which organized the awards event, selected honorees based on “success in helping to resolve complex community mental health concerns through advocacy, research, public policy, outreach, clinical work, county administration, or direct services.”

Mental Health California is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to educate and inspire Californians with news and information on health, mental health, and mental wellness through publishing, training, education, forums, and special programs.
