School of Medicine invites staff, students and faculty to envision the future

Back to the Future contest awards prizes including iPads and gift cards

The School of Medicine is going back to the future – and UCD Health staff, students and faculty are invited to join in the adventure.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the school is hosting a Back to the Future contest. Its leaders want to hear your thoughts and ideas on what the School of Medicine will look like 50 years from now. The entries can be in the form of video, audio, written word, photography, illustration, multimedia or a combination of formats.

Participants are encouraged to focus on the school’s key areas: education, patient care, research, community outreach and diversity.

The top five winners will receive an iPad. The top 50 winners will receive a $25 gift card.

“It’s astounding to see how impressively the School of Medicine has grown and developed since its founding on the fields of Davis 50 years ago,” said Lars Berglund, M.D., Ph.D., interim dean of the School of Medicine. “We’re now an internationally recognized leader in academic medicine, and given the pace of change in medicine, technology, patient care and more, we’re eager to learn where staff, students and faculty envision us being headed over the next half century.”

Entries can be submitted to by March 31, 2019.

For more information about the contest, please contact Ally Cherko at or 916-703-9207. All students, residents, faculty, and staff from the entire health system are encouraged to participate.

The contest is one of many ways the School of Medicine is celebrating its anniversary since September. Here are highlights from an anniversary video:
