(SACRAMENTO)

The 17th season of the UC Davis MIND Institute’s 2019-20 Distinguished Lecturer Series, featuring world-class leaders in research on autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities, begins October 9 and continues on the second Wednesday of each month after that through May.

Sally Rogers Sally Rogers

The first speaker is Sally Rogers, a pioneer in early diagnosis and treatment of children with autism and a professor in the UC Davis Health Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and at the UC Davis MIND Institute. Rogers trains people all over the world in delivering evidence-based behavioral interventions and building support systems for children and their families. She is internationally known for the co-creation of the Early Start Denver Model, a behavioral therapy for children with autism between the ages of 12-48 months. The now widely-used practice was named among the top 10 medical breakthroughs by Time magazine in 2012.

“We are so honored to have one of our own groundbreaking researchers kick off this year’s lecture series,” said Len Abbeduto, director of UC Davis MIND Institute and Tsakopoulos-Vismara Endowed Chair in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. “These events further our mission to understand, prevent and reduce the disabilities and challenges that can be associated with autism and other conditions and make sure that information is available to the public.”

The Distinguished Lecturer Series provides opportunities for the community to learn about the outstanding work of trailblazers in neurodevelopment research. It also presents opportunities for researchers and clinicians to exchange their expertise.

All Distinguished Lecturer Series events begin at 4:30 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m. Registration is not needed, but seating is on a first-come basis. Lectures take place in the auditorium of the UC Davis MIND Institute, located at 2825 50th Street in Sacramento.
