Ulfat Shaikh to speak at Fall Convocation

Ulfat Shaikh, director of Healthcare Quality at the UC Davis School of Medicine and UC Davis Children's Hospital pediatrician, is scheduled to speak at the 2013 Fall Convocation on Davis campus this year.

The event will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

This year’s convocation will focus on the World Food Center at UC Davis and its collaborative, multidisciplinary approach for improving the way society feeds people and protects their health. Shaikh will describe how students, faculty and staff from UC Davis Health System are innovating together with colleagues from many other UC Davis schools and colleges to find new and better sustainable solutions to the most pressing health challenges.

Chancellor Katehi will host the event. Liz Applegate, senior lecturer with the Department of Nutrition, will be the event's master of ceremonies. Karen Ross, secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, will deliver the keynote address.

A universitywide health fair, farmers market and reception will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Vanderhoef Quad across from the Mondavi Center.

Free shuttle buses will be provided to Davis campus for health system employees. Buses will depart at 9 a.m. from the Transit Center at the Main Hospital. Please contact Kate Goodnight at or 916-734-9419 to register for a ride.
