Philosophy of Care

I believe in taking care of patients as if they were my own family member. I recognize that many patients are hesitant about having surgery and I think it is crucial to have a thorough discussion covering the indications, risks and benefits of an operation before proceeding. I believe that it is critically important that we provide the best possible care to each and every patient that comes through our door. Residents play a big part in the care that we provide at UC Davis and I encourage their participation in treating all patients.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Leshikar is a general surgeon who specializes in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He primarily works in the inpatient setting caring for patients with complex injuries and those who require emergency general surgery operations. In addition to trauma surgery, he sees patients in clinic who require hernia surgery, including abdominal wall reconstruction.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Leshikar believes strongly in the importance of education and learning in the hospital. He serves as the Associate Program Director of both the General Surgery Residency and the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship where he helps design the trainee's curriculum and prepare them to ultimately take excellent care of their patients. He is also involved in teaching medical students and nursing education to help reinforce the strong teamwork atmosphere that we have at UC Davis.
