Philosophy of Care
I believe that every individual is unique. My goal is to partner with each individual to develop a care plan that will control disease and prevent complications. I believe in a team approach to inflammatory bowel disease care where we work with colorectal surgery, rheumatology, dermatology, nutritionist, pharmacist, and a dedicated nursing staff.
Dr. Mao is a gastroenterologist who specializes in the care of inflammatory bowel diseases including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. He has significant experience caring for inflammatory bowel disease during pregnancy. He also has a special clinical interest in checkpoint inhibitor colitis.
Dr. Mao is interested in the development of novel inflammatory bowel disease therapy and participates in cutting-edge clinical drug trials. He has focused on improving preventive care in inflammatory bowel disease patients. He is also interested in characterizing the prevalence and natural history of inflammatory bowel disease in understudied patient populations.
