UC Davis Health System is co-chairing this year’s March for Babies in Sacramento, and the public is invited to support a health system team or register to walk and help make sure every baby gets a chance for a healthy start in life.

Co-chairs for the April 28 walk event are Claire Pomeroy, vice chancellor for human health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine, Fred Meyers, executive associate dean of the School of Medicine, and Diana Farmer, surgeon-in-chief of UC Davis Children’s Hospital. They all have been encouraging faculty, staff and students to sign up and support research and programs for children.

"We want this to be the best March for Babies ever," said Pomeroy. "Past marches have set the bar very high, so we're going to have to work hard to accomplish great things."

Jenn Benning, a team captain representing this year's March for Babies ambassador family, will lead a team of walkers. Her son, Cody, was born with a heart defect, but thanks to a UC Davis surgical team, Cody’s life was saved.

"I'm grateful for organizations like March of Dimes and UC Davis Health System for helping families like mine. The work they do is life saving," said Benning, who will celebrate Cody’s third birthday on the day of the walk.

The March for Babies is the longest-running and most widely recognized walking event in the nation, generating more than $1.5 billion for the March of Dimes over its 42-year history. The organization and the health system share a dedication to finding answers to childhood illnesses and disabilities.

“UC Davis Health System and the March of Dimes have a common commitment to outstanding clinical care for children, as well as for research and innovation that will help all children be born healthy and stay healthy,” said Pomeroy.
