Celtic-themed
gala raises money for UC Davis cancer research
More
than 300 people attended the UC Davis Cancer Center's second annual
fundraiser, Passport to Ireland, last November. The soiree featured
performances by Irish soprano Patricia Cahill and Celtic harpist
Annie Roos, silent and live auctions, fine Irish cuisine and dancing.
The
Roseville-based company Informed Investors used the occasion to
announce the winner of the first annual Peter McCuen Cancer Research
Excellence Award. McCuen, a civic leader and chairman of the UC
Davis Cancer Center Executive Advisory Board, died last year after
a lengthy battle with cancer. The award honoring his memory was
presented to IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp., the San Diego company that
developed rituximab, a monoclonal antibody drug for lymphoma.
The
event raised $63,000 for UC Davis cancer research. In addition,
guests pledged $15,000 to endowments in support of breast and prostate
cancer research.
Co-chairs
for the event, held at the Sacramento Hilton, were Gary Little and
Len Schwartz.
