Assistant Clinical Professor

Anna Satake is an assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. She leads the development of the caregiving consultation service in the Healthy Aging Clinic. Additionally, she leads and participates in research related to older adult care or caregiving. She collaborates with leaders of the UC Davis Health Healthy Aging Initiative in educating the workforce and improving care for older adults.

Satake is an expert in the care of the geriatric population. She is interested in research specifically focused on those with dementia and their caregivers regarding their experience and strategies to improve care and support caregivers along the disease progression.

Satake’s academic interests include preparing nurses and providers to ensure compassionate and evidence-based care of older adults and their caregivers. She wants to empower clinicians to be advocates for older adults and to improve care across the continuum.

Before joining the School of Nursing, Satake worked in multiple acute care medical centers over the last two decades. Most of her work has been as a Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist where she provided geriatric consultation to patients regarding dementia, delirium and fall prevention. She led projects and provided education across disciplines on topics related to dementia, delirium, potentially inappropriate medications for older adults, behavior management in dementia, restraints, sitter usage and fall prevention. She is experienced in program- and quality-improvement processes and has led stroke programs to achieve Primary Stroke Certification. At UC Davis Medical Center, she led the way to achieve NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders) Senior Friendly and IHI Age-Friendly level II Committed to Care Excellence recognition. Satake has developed a curriculum for new graduate programs, nursing assistant programs and nurse practitioner programs on topics of geriatrics or nursing care.

She received a Doctor of Philosophy from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis in 2023 and a Master of Science in Nursing in the Geriatric CNS program at the UCSF in 2006. Her undergraduate degree was achieved from Simpson College in 1999.

Satake has been a member of several local and national professional organizations. She has been a leader in the American Delirium Society as the co-chair of the Education Committee and tri-chair of the Conference Planning Committee. She has presented on geriatric topics at several state and national conferences, including the American Delirium Society, CALNOC, NICHE, GAPNA, Peri Anesthesia Nurses Association of California, California Clinical Nurse Specialist and the Gerontological Society of America. Her work has been published in Innovation in Aging.
