UC Davis earns Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center accreditation

(SACRAMENTO)

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has recognized UC Davis Medical Center as a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center (CBIC). The new designation acknowledges facilities that achieve excellence in women’s health by participating in rigorous quality assurance programs.

The CBIC designation is considered prestigious because it is awarded only after the ACR performs an independent, comprehensive assessment of the medical imaging facility. In this case, the evaluation took place at the main Breast Radiology location at the UC Davis Health Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center in Sacramento.

To receive the CBIC designation, a center must be fully accredited by the ACR in mammography, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound.

“We are very proud to provide the whole region with the very highest level of breast imaging services available,” said Shadi Aminololama-Shakeri, chief of the Division of Breast Radiology. “Our entire team makes this seal of quality and excellence possible for our patients and allows us to deliver the very highest quality of care that patients come to expect from UC Davis.”

National Mammography Database

Facilities achieving and maintaining the CBIC designation are invited to participate in the ACR National Mammography Database (NMD). The benefits of participation allow UC  Davis Health to:

  • Benchmark practice performance
  • Compare processes and outcomes to similar practices nationwide
  • Meet and exceed the FDA’s audit data collection requirements
  • Target specific areas for attention and implement successful quality improvement programs
  • Meet criteria for practice quality improvement (PQI) to fulfill American Board of Radiology Maintenance of Certification Program requirements
  • Receive reports every six months
  • Participate in free webinars to discuss how to interpret the data and sShare ideas with other participants on how to use the data for practice improvement
  • Choose what data points are included with their participation. Many data points uploaded to NMD are optional
