Transforming data into information that creates knowledge and actionable insights requires analysis and understanding data from patient records, clinical operations, and other sources. The Data Center of Excellence provides secure environments with comprehensive, innovative tools for using our data.

Accrual to Clinical Trials (ACT)

The ACT Network is a real-time platform allowing researchers to explore and validate feasibility for clinical studies across the NCATS Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) consortium, from their desktops.

Cohort Discovery (retired)

Researchers use the Cohort Discovery tool to identify populations of patients who have received care at UC Davis Health and may be appropriate for a research study. The tool allows users to explore and adjust possible inclusion and exclusion criteria to assess the size and availability of suitable populations.

Collibra

Collibra is an enterprise-oriented data governance platform for data management and stewardship. It empowers businesses to find meaning in their data and improve business decisions. With one shared platform, business users and IT can collaborate to form a data-driven culture using the Collibra product suite.

Data Loofah

The Data Loofah is an online investigative tool used to assess the quality of data prior to statistical analysis. Even with the best care and data management practices data can accumulate errors that can be difficult to catch and may negatively impact the analysis process and results. This is where the Data Loofah comes in. The Data Loofah will summarize variables and outcomes to help you identify potential errors like extreme, nonsensical, inconsistent and missing values, and incorrectly categorized variables.

DocuSign

DocuSign is a software tool that automates electronic signatures and document routing.  For investigator-led research projects and clinical trials, DocuSign can be implemented to streamline, improve, and easily transfer research documents such as protocols, grant administration, informed (electronic) consent, and non-disclosure and data sharing agreements. Wherever eSignatures are approved for use, DocuSign can help.

NOTE: DocuSign is approved for research consent & HIPAA signature only, as well as academic and administrative operational purposes. It is not approved for clinical use.

Cogito suite of tools by EPIC

Cogito is Epic’s module for Analytics. It consists of all their tools: Radar, Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, their Analytics Catalog, and all their data warehouses: Clarity, Caboodle, Chronicles.

Clarity & Caboodle

Clarity and Caboodle Data Storage Environments by Epic. Due to the sensitive nature of their content the clinical databases require strict access control. Access is based on a user’s role within the health system and their qualifications to work with the data. Clarity access requires Clarity Data Model certification or proficiency from Epic. Caboodle Data Warehouse access requires Caboodle Development certification or proficiency from Epic.

Epic - Radar

Radar is used to present information and usually falls under the duties of the Epic Reporting Coordinator. Think of Radar as a dashboard or splash screen. What is seen in Radar can be tailored to meet the needs of all most any role in the organization, from provider to billing clerk. Radar does this by the use of specialized components. There are seven of these, and each has a specific use.

Epic - Reporting Workbench

Reporting Workbench is a Business Intelligence tool that Epic has included in their Cogito Analytics module. Reporting Workbench (RWB) reports are reports that display both rows of data, and can also display charts and graphs.

Epic - Slicerdicer

SlicerDicer is a self-service reporting tool that provides physicians, department managers, and other users with intuitive and customizable data exploration abilities. Using SlicerDicer, users can find the data they need to investigate a hunch, and then refine their searches on the fly to better understand the data they work with.

Freezerworks

Freezerworks is uniquely designed for the laboratory, biobank, or research organization that needs to track samples and aliquot lineage for effective traceability of cell lines, tissues, slides, cell therapy and blood products, and more.  It includes workflow management for checking out, checking in, requisitioning, shipping, sample pooling, and testing of aliquots, with configurable security to prevent unauthorized access to sample data, freezers, and patient data.  Freezerworks is a reliable and affordable LIMS for managing tests and results for clinical and research use.  Users can add and remove fields, adjust entry and viewing screens, label formats, without the need of a programmer or custom work order.  Access your inventory data from the Desktop Client, the REST API, or put the power of Freezerworks in a browser tab.

OMOP

The OMOP Common Data Model allows for the systematic analysis of disparate observational databases. The concept behind this approach is to transform data contained within those databases into a common format (data model) as well as a common representation (terminologies, vocabularies, coding schemes), and then perform systematic analyses using a library of standard analytic routines that have been written based on the common format.

OnCore

OnCore - The Online Collaborative Research Environment, is a clinical trial management system (CTMS) that enables the management of research, safety, regulatory, financial, biospecimen, and operational data in one tool.

Qualtrics

Qualtrics  Research Suite is a powerful survey tool that is highly customizable and easy to use. With Qualtrics, you can design and distribute surveys, manage the responses, track the participants, and analyze the data, all in an easy-to-navigate, web-based interface.

Reporting data

Epic EHR Hyperspace

For users of Epic, UC Davis Health’s Electronic Health Records, custom real-time dashboards and actionable patient lists can be accessed through Reporting Workbench and Radar Dashboards.

UC Davis EHR

Due to the sensitive nature of their content the clinical databases require strict access control. Access is based on a user’s role within the health system and their qualifications to work with the data. Clarity access requires Clarity Data Model certification or proficiency from Epic. Caboodle Data Warehouse access requires Caboodle Development certification or proficiency from Epic.

UC Davis EHR DataPATH (de-identified)

DataPATH is a legally de-identified database that has been extracted from standardized EHR data. UC Davis Health system researchers can access the data without IRB approval in a secure computational environment. A variety of tool options can be provided (e.g., SQL, R, SAS, Python) to query the data. Upon IRB approval, the analytical programs written against DataPATH data can be run on the fully identified EHR data. A companion data explorer environment built with Tableau visualization tools will be available soon.
